August Scramble Report

🧢🌽⚾ 2025 Corn Roast Scramble Warp Up

A Rain Delay Worth the Wait

If at first you don’t succeed—well, you try again. And that’s exactly what we did when August 9th brought clouds and steady rain, making it impossible to play ball. But a little reshuffling worked wonders: not only did we reschedule, but we also added an extra team and welcomed 40 more folks to the supper. That’s the spirit of the scramble—more ball, more laughs, and more chances to connect.

The Corn Roast Scramble isn’t just about the game. It’s about mixing up the regular league teams, giving players a chance to meet new faces, maybe try playing a different position in the field, reconnect with old teammates, and share stories with significant others who’ve cheered from the sidelines throughout the years.

The day kicked off with a cool, beautiful morning and a hearty breakfast courtesy of the E&H boys—bacon, eggs, toast, and coffee for a quick five bucks. With seven teams in the mix, we spaced out the games to play full seven-inning matchups. First pitch flew at 8:30, and the last game wrapped around 3:45, leaving just enough time to prep for supper.

Lunch was a tag-team effort from the Morrison Health Mavericks and the Mike Meats Meateors, while the Garage Pub crew kept everyone refreshed with cold drinks throughout the day and into the evening.

Supper was a true community feast—sausage on a bun, freshly picked corn, a side of potato salad, and a cookie or two to finish it off, all served up by the Crosstown Courier Red Sox and Station Coffee teams (with plenty of help from their better halves). Just as supper was being served, a brief fresh shower reminded us of nature’s touch—soon giving way to golden rays of sunshine and a beautiful evening.

A special thank you to Phil Marleau for keeping the crowd entertained and the vibes high during the supper and into the evening. Huge shoutout to the press box crew and every volunteer who helped the day run like clockwork — your efforts didn’t go unnoticed.

And a very special thanks to the little girl who called her nana to come pick her up so she could watch her papa play ball, while her mom and brother were still fast asleep. Her beaming smile at breakfast with both before after the game was the perfect reminder of what these moments are all about.

Here’s to rain delays that turn into something even better. Until next time—play ball!
