Team 65 Huntsman Games Scores and Hi-Lites 2025

Final Report:
Well folks, that’s a wrap for the 65’s and the 2025 season. We win a bronze medal at the Huntsman, losing to a very strong AA team, the Islanders, a combination of California and Hawaii guys. Needless to say, we don’t have anything to be ashamed about. These guys sandbagged their way into the B division, and carried on to win gold against the Chargers, beating them bad twice. However, we played them to best of our ability, just not quite good enough. The score was 19-16, which we are very proud of.
Our leading hitters this game were our “rookies”, Dave Hammel, 4-4 with a HR, Leon Moch, 4-4, Cal Mayer, 3-4 and a couple guys with 2 hits. Brian Stonehouse pitched well, but these guys hit hard and deep. The outfielders got their steps in!!
It’s been a great season, many thanks to our coach, Dery Eresman, who’s in charge of this rag-tag bunch. As a league, we should be very proud how all our teams represent our association and the City of Medicine Hat at this very high profile event. Everyone there recognizes the Huff N Puffs from Medicine Hat, AB. CAN. Our teams are formed from players that play in our league. Most of the teams we play against are guys from all over the map. We do it with our own guys, and do it very well.
So, congratulations to all those that participated, medal or not. We all did our best, and we did it with class. And thanks to our many cheerleaders. It’s been a great year. See you in 2026.

Thursday Oct 16 Report:
One game today, and it was a loss to the Calgary Chargers, 16-13. FYI: these are not the same Chargers that we play all summer at our local tournaments. They say that they were the original Chargers, and basically have guys from all over AB. that just play in some tournaments, the Huntsman included.
We started out very slow, maybe a little bit of nerves, but it took us 4 innings to get on the board. Our first 3 innings were basically 1-2-3 innings, so we dug ourselves a bit of a hole. I don't have the scoresheet, but once we got back to the top of the order for the 2nd at bats, we then started scoring runs. It seemed like we were hitting the ball hard at the start, but their outfielders were pretty much sitting at the fence and catching our fly balls.
We now have to drop down to the bronze medal game, if we win we play the Chargers again for the gold/silver. Game time is 12:30 against the Islanders, which is a combination of Hawaii and California guys. They are a good team, so we will have to be at our best from the get-go.

Wednesday Oct 15 Report:
The 65's Huff N Puffs started our playoff round today, albeit a couple hours late, waiting for rain to subside. The temps have definitely cooled down, it's 15 degrees in St. George, and windy.

Game1 - vs Edmonton Vintage, we win, 10-9. We were tied at 9 going into the open 6th. We kept them scoreless. Wayne Miller then hit a stand up triple to lead off, they intentionally walked Tim Seitz and Jamie White to load the bases, then Smashing Ron Stubbs hit a monster shot to the LF fence to score Wayne. Game over.
This was a weird game through and through. Edmonton hit into a double play, then we got the 3rd out of that inning when we caught a guy off the base when he thought it was 3 out. They then hit a grand slam in another inning, but it was the 3rd out, and they were out of homers. so, needless to say, we were a bit fortunate, but we'll take it.
We only had 16 hits. Ron Stubbs was our leading hitter, 3-3. Lots of guys had 2 hits.
Trent Rasch was the winning pitcher.

Game 2- vs Island Pub from Anchorage, AK. We win 17-15. We were up 17-7 going into the open bottom of the 6th, but it got a little too close for comfort. The Anchorage boys score 8 and were threatening with men on base, but we got the 3rd out on an infield fly ball to Cal Mayer at SS.
We hit the ball very well in this game, a total of 26 hits. Cal Mayer hit the big blow, our first team HR with 2 RBI's, which ended up being the winning runs. Again, Ron Stubbs had a huge 6th inning pinch hit triple that really got the 6th going for us. Other leaders were Mike Ferre, 4-4, Dave Hammel, Darrell Maser and Dery Eresman all had 3 hits.
It was a great win, we now move on to the semi final tomorrow, hope it warms up a bit.
Brian Stonehouse was the winning pitcher.

Tuesday Oct 14 Report:
We just finished our 3 games of the round robin, all 3 games in 1 day, as we were rained out on Monday, and our 3rd game went into extra innings, so we have had a long day.

Game 1- defeated Party Time Knights, a team from Austin TX. Score was 22-12. 31 hits,
Dave Hammel and Cal Mayer, both 4-4.
Jamie White, Tim Seitz & Ron Stubbs, all 3-3. Dean Roy 3-4.
Winning pitcher - Brian Stonehouse

Game 2 - lost to Wenatchee 65's, 14-13. Very good game, could have gone either way.
Cal Mayer, Mike Ferre and Leon Moch, all 3-3.
Dave Hammel, Darrell Maser, Dery Eresman and Wayne Miller all had 2 hits.
A total of 24 hits.
Trent Rasch took the loss.

Game 3 - lost to the PHX Road Warriors, for the 3rd time this week, 29-23 in extra innings.
The game was tied  at 20 after 6, we scored 9 runs in the bottom of the 6th open inning to force an extra. They scored 9 in the 7th, we only scored 3. Very good game and our comeback just came up short. We had 33 hits in this game, and everyone contributed.
Brian Stonehouse took the loss.
So, now off to the playoff round. We play Edmonton Vintage tomorrow morning at 8:30. Yikes, an early start. Good night.
