The first scramble of 2025 is in the books and by the looks of things and the outstanding participation, I think we can deem it a pretty big success. The “weather gods” came through with one of the nicest days of spring. No 200 mph winds, just perfect sunshine for 9 exciting ball games with 9 fairly evenly matched teams. With 105 ball players and approximately 165 patrons for supper it was a busy but enjoyable day.
Special thanks to all the volunteers that helped make the scramble another big success. Our organization, which I believe is the envy of the country, revolves around volunteers and we once again literally hit it out of the park. To the coaches of Bumper to Bumper, Copper Coulee, Redi, Stewart Optical, Juggies, and the Lakers, thanks for organizing your people. Copper Coulee out did IHOP with the great breakfast, Stewart Optical and Juggies fried the hamburgers to perfection and Bumper to Bumper and the Lakers kept the beer cold and flowing. Redi made sure the food got to the park which was welcomed by everyone after the long day of ball.
Although it’s tough to single everyone out, special thanks to the “Real Coach” of Bumper to Bumper, Renae for the big job of organizing the meal. To Randy and the team up in the press box. Without these great guys and gals up there, the day wouldn’t be half as colorful. To the best dressed “garbage guy” north of the river, Normie, for keeping things tidy and looking good. To all the spouses that helped out in the kitchen and bar and allowed us to pretend we are still young so we can play the game we love. And last but not least the poor guy still on the injured reserve list, Huggy, for basically doing “everything”. Sometimes it appears there are 4 of him as he is everywhere.
We are truly blessed to have the many volunteers and players to have such a fun and organized event. The next Scramble is in August and I’m sure it will be just as successful as this one.
