August 4 - August 7 Scores and Hi Lites

August 7:
Game 1 - With just enough time before the rain clouds opened up, the Bumper to Bumper Blue Jays were able to defeat the Redi Recycle Rockies by a score of 14-5. Chad Stahl playing his final game of the season went 4-4 including a stand up triple to right field along with some great defensive plays at third base. Andy Stroh, Tim Seitz and Kevin Lane chipped in with three hits each while Rick (last minute sub) Parker belted a two run home run in the fourth inning. For the Rockies, Barry Koch blasted a three run home run in the first inning. Vern Herter was the winning pitcher while Bruce Stuber suffered the loss. Great job by Vivian Moch as the announcer of the game.

August 6:
Game 1 - The Sauer RV Storage Lakers and Mike Meats Meateors played in a low scoring game that was great to play in, but most likely not to watch. The Sauer RV Storage Lakers took a 4-2 lead after 6 innings to hold off the Mikes Meats Donnyless Meateors for a 4-2 victory.
The Sauer RV Storage Lakers and Mike Metas Meateors should have hired a baker on this baseball night because they needed a good batter. As fast as the game was, you might have thought you were watching the fast and the furious.
Highlights for Mikes Meats Meateors was a 2/2 night for Coach Ron Stubbs and a 2/3 night for Ron Poison, Miles Mayer and Tim Johnson. The RBI’s for the Meateors came from Jim starter and closer Fink and Brian Coondog Cooney.
Highlights for the Sauer RV Storage Lakers was a 2/3 night for Trevor Dave Fauth (3RBI’s) and Mike Rotator Shantz who played his last game of this season due to a contract dispute and rotator Cuff Surgery. The last 2 RBI’s for the Lakers came from Phill the Thrill Marleau and Walter saving energy Pratt.
There was some great defence by Ron Go Go Gadget Pisoni in Left Centre for the Meateors and by Phill the thrill Marleau and Ross Key Less Foster for the Lakers who made a great relay to second base to start a double play.
Finally I would like to thank the Morrison Health Mavericks for buying all the hot dogs within the city to continue on with our $1 hot dog night and doing a great job in preparing, serving them and filling the park with fans. Also thanks to the Score Keeper, Announcer and umps.

The Jays were lead by Andy Stroh (2 doubles, hr), Kerry Buss (double, hr) and Kenn Kallis (double) all going 4-4. Kevin Lane (2 doubles) and Mike Peters were 3-4 while Tim Seitz, Tom Baker, Andy Christie, Rob Hammel and Vern Herter each had two hits. The Jays were also able to throw out two Red Sox runners at home. Going 3-3 for the Red Sox were Boyd Hamm (double, hr) and Lance Knodel (2 doubles). A great job by the Mavericks with the annual hot dog night as many came down to the ball park to enjoy the food and watch some ball on another beautiful evening.

Sam Montoya and Randy Wuerfel each went 3 for 4 (all singles). In the field, Copper Coulee made few errors and Darren Emerson made several catches in left field which prevented the Long Shots from mounting a come-back.

August 5:
Game 1 - On another beautiful evening at the ballpark! Great to see Redi Recyclers return to full strength, welcoming back some players from injury. The game started out with each scoring 3 in the first and remaining deadlocked after 2. The Rebels edged ahead in the top half of the third with 2, while the Rockies roared back with a 5-spot in the bottom half, taking an 8-5 lead. The Rockies added 1 more in their fourth, stretching their lead to 9-5. The Rebels clawed back with 3 in the fifth and sealed the comeback with 4 more in the seventh, while their defence held the Rockies scoreless through the final 3 innings. Final score Logos Rebels 12, Redi Recyclers Rockies 9. Huge shout out to Mike & Darlene in the press box for keeping the crowd informed and entertained. With Paul & Jim making the calls on the field and the rest of the Garage Pub crew for feeding the hangry and the hungry alike!  Here’s to more great evenings and games ahead!

Game 2 - Sports is hard. It doesn't matter if its golf, pickleball, cornhole or Senior Men's Slowpitch. It's not only hard but it can kick you in the teeth one minute and then make you feel like you won the world series the next. That's the only way to describe the battle tonight between the heavily favored Elmer & Harolds Astros and the Sauer RV Storage Lakers. The Lakers actually jumped out to an early lead in part from some timely hitting from the winning pitcher Wilf Broesky and a great catch in the sun with his welding glasses on Walter Pratt. The two had 5 hits between them. Trevor Fauth also had 3 hits and Phil The Thrill Marleau 2. The Astros stuck with it though and made some great plays of their own. The ever-steady all-star rover, Frank Merkl made arguably the catch of the year in short left then import Bam Bam Koch hit a deep dinger to put the Astros on top. Marey Salmon, Darrell Jesse and Wade Watson also pitched in with 3 hits each. The Lakers were without their 2 top draft picks but super subs Bumper to Bumper Buss and Delvin Moch combined for 6 hits that helped the Lakers keep pace. After 5 it was Lakers 10-8. The Astros struck for 5 runs in the 6th then 2 more in the 7th to take a 15-11 lead into the bottom of 7. As the fans were leaving the park the Lakers quietly put runners on base and with the winning run on 3rd, the Lakers hit a squibbler that somehow reached the outfield and the Storage boys celebrated a very surprising 16-15 victory. Like I said, sports is hard and very unpredictable. Hats off to the Meat guys for the hamburger flipping and calling balls and strikes. The press box was once again manned admirably by Mike & Darlene. Laker next action is Wednesday. Game time 5:30
