Game 1 - Stewart Optical defeated Redi Recycle Rockies 15-7 in the first game of the evening on a beautiful night at the ball park. Redi scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a long home run by Rick Parker, but the Eye Guys responded with 5 runs in each of the first two innings to grab the lead that they were able to hold onto. As well as the one long ball the Rockies were led by Al Martens with three hits while Rod Groves, Rick Parker, the ageless Howard Gehring and Rob Hammel chipped in with a couple hits each. For the Eye Guys Dave Wong, Dan Rattai and Russ Cameron went 3-3 while Ron Pisoni, John Engel, Bill Rothwell and Tom Baker each added a pair of hits. Tom Baker and Randy Biko combined to pitch a very strong game for Stewart Optical and helped their cause by making a couple of big defensive plays. The defensive highlight of the night had to be Dan Rattai with the second assist relay to John Engel then to the third baseman in time to get a speedy Kevin Friesen by about 10 feet. Just like it was drawn up.

Game 3 - In a very well played defensive game, Elmer & Harold’s Astros squeaked out a 4 - 3 win over the Morrison Health Mavericks. Great catches were made on both sides highlighted by the Mavericks Lloyd Kilback in right field and by the Astros Kelly Lutz as pitcher, Gord Deibert at 2nd and Darrell Jesse at 1st base. The hits were there on both sides but tonight was all about defense.
And it struck me again tonight how great our slow pitch league really is. Five minutes after the game, guys on both teams were joking back and forth, the score mostly forgotten. Lorne Holden Field is a “happy place” for a lot of guys.

Game 1 - After all the rain, the boys were allowed to come out and play again. Beautiful night, for the first game of a triple bill at the Lorne Holden Field of Dreams! The 5:30 game was a barn burner. Back and forth right to the end where home club Logos Rebels defeated the Coffee Stations Longshots 17- 16. Hitting was the name of the game. With the Logos again coming out on top by 1. The Long Shots had 20 and the Rebels had 21. No less than 5 different innings where 5 runs where scored. The Long Shots were led by Cal and Miles Mayer with 3 singles each. Grant Mackay, Blair Bosch, Wayne Miller, Harold Enslen, Trent Rasch, and Tim Macinnis all had 2 singles each. Ken Wou had his game in check with 2 singles, along with an inside the park home run. Ron Jarvis was back batting 1000 with 2 singles and a triple. Danny Stevens had a single and a 3 run home run chasing a few birds out of the trees.
We like to thank Juggies Tap House led by chef Casey & his crew for the cooking and handling the umpiring, along with Darlene & Randy in the press box.
