July 31 - August 3 Scores and Hi-Lites

Aug 3
Game 1 - In the first games of this very warm August  evening, the Astros out scored the Optical boys 15 to10. For the Opticals, Rob Fischer and Darrell Bonogofsky were 3/4 at the plate with Darrell hitting a 2 run homer in the 7th. Kevin Lane and Paul Savard each went 4/4. On the visitors side of the diamond, Mark Porter and our two Keith's each batted 1.000 capped off by a 3 RBI homer by the best looking( some would say) of the Lutz brothers. On defense for the Opticals, Rob Fischer and Paul Savard each made run saving catches as did Bill Ramage, Paul King and Keith Lutz for the Astros. In a true spirit of comradery both teams got together for a photo after the game to honour the memory of Les Zeller. Les' funeral will be held at 1pm on Monday at the Mormon Church at the corner of Strachan Road and South Ridge Drive SE.

Game 3 - Welcome to the Dieter Stanke show tonight. The Juggies TapHouse Brewers vs Mike's Meteors. Final score, Brewers over the Meteors, 22-13. Dieter had 3 large HR's, 2 Grand Salami's and one 2 run HR, a total of 10 RBI's. Quite a performance and fun to watch. It was actually a close game, the Brewers were up by a couple going into the 7th inning, Dieter blasted one, and the Meteors went down in order without a run. Some very good performances by others, Blaine Lutz was 4-4, Jeff Hall hit a big HR early, Randy Kambeitz was perfect at the plate, as was Dan Rattai. A fun game with lots of good offense. Thanks to the Copper Casino boys for their work tonight. Have a good long weekend.

Game 3 - An emotional final game of the evening went down to the wire as Stewart Optical scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Juggies Brewers 12-11.  The outcome of the game was only a small part of a amazing night where so many people paid tribute to a great ball player, teammate and most importantly a friend to everyone. Les Zeller passed away Tuesday morning and while he will be missed dearly by so many of us his memory will last a lifetime. Long time close friend Jim Stewart hit a couple of long home runs that he dedicated to Les. There was great hitting and some good defensive plays by both teams but the real hi light of the night was the friendship and camaraderie shown by the whole league. Thanks to everyone that made this night so special, I’m sure Les would be proud to be associated with such great people.
