The Medicine Hat Huff & Puff 60s opened a tournament in Mesquite, Nevada with two convincing wins. In their opener, the Huff & Puffs defeated the Salt Lake City Mountain Men 18-8. Barry Koch led the Huff &Puffs with a four hit performance including a double and a triple. Curtis Scherger also had four knocks, all singles. Leon Moch, Kelly Lutz and Cal Mayer banged out three hits each. Perry Nurse pitched the entire game for the win.
In game two, Medicine Hat upended the Sun City, Arizona Sidekicks 12-3. Chris Wandler, Royce Hopkins, Jim Stewart, Dave Hammel, Barry Koch, Cal Mayer and Kevin Friesen all had two hits. Hammel pitched a complete game on the mound for the victory.
On Sunday to close out the preliminary round the Huff & Puffs play the Lethbridge Nationals and the Road Warriors.

The Medicine Hat Huff &Puff 60's captured the gold medal at the Mesquite Senior Games posting a perfect 5-0 record. On Sunday afternoon in 37 degree weather, the Huff & Puffs defeated Las Vegas Elite 16-10. Chris Wandler went four for four at the plate. Royce Hopkins, Dave Hammel, Barry Koch and Al Martens all contributed with three knocks. Hammel picked up the win in the final. Earlier in the day to close out preliminary play the Huff & Puffs hammered the Road Warriors 20-4. Dave Hammel went four for four with four runs scored. Cal Mayer and Curtis Scherger also had four hit performances. In the early morning game, the Huff & Puffs picked up a 16-6 victory over the Lethbridge Nationals. Blaine Lutz went four for four. Leon Moch and Royce Hopkins each had three hits. Medicine Hat will now move onto St. George, Utah for the Huntsman World Senior games with a pair of contests Monday
