July 17:
Game 1 - Stewart Optical overcame a 5 run first inning by the Redi Recycle Rockies, and a coach that can’t read a schedule or hit a ball out of the infield, to pull out a 13-12 squeaker. The eye guys scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win and were once again led by Darrell Bonogofsky who had four hits including a seventh inning triple. Byron Witkowski also added four hits including driving in the game winning run. James Phillips and Rob Price both added three hits for the Optical team. There were a number of big plays by all of the outfielders including a couple of sliding grabs by Brian Christmas and Byron.
The Rockies had a couple of five run innings, but left a number of runners on base through the game. Offensively Grant MacKay led the Rockies with 4 hits while Royce Hopkins and Bruce Stuber chipped in with three hits apiece. Jim Dulle and Rob Price in relief both pitched strong games keeping the ball in play and letting the defense make the plays. Another beautiful night for ball!

Game 2 - Although the Juggies Brewers were missing 2 important players in their lineup they were still the Vegas odds-on favorites to win this one by a fair margin. Why you ask? Well, the Lakers were without the top 2 guys on their payroll and the only 2 shortstops on the roster. Huggy Scherger and Speedy Gonzales Stroh were both away on "paid leave", so it looked bleak to say the least for the RV Storage squad. With the two stars of the team gone the rest of the Lakers pulled together and manufactured a 10-9 victory over a very tough Brewers crew. Was it easy? Seemed like it early as the Lakers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in part to the owner Sauer going 3/3 and the old Burstall Brave Trevor Fauth also hammering 3 hits. The Juggies Brewers weren't quitters as they eventually took an 8-7 lead in part because of a dinger over the centerfield fence from "Red Lutz" and a 3/3 night from Paul Savard, Terry Tucker and a double from Coach White. The Lakers eventually tied the game with the help from Russ Fosters 2/3 night and a double from Pierre Cote. Then with the score tied at 9 in the bottom of the 6th, Phil The Thrill Marleau had an RBI line shot over the 3rd baseman to make it 10-9 Lakers. Wilf Broesky pitched a strong game and shut the door in the 7th to preserve the win. A cooler but beautiful night at the park. Nice job by the umpire crew, the cooks, and Jimmy Black and his cohort in the press box.
