Aug 5:
Game 1 - A tight defense and timely hitting by the Garage Pub sent them to a 13 to 4 win over the Sauer Lakers. In fairness the Lakers played without two of their big gunners. Mind you the Pub squad wasn't playing with a full deck either.
Game 2 - A very good game tonight for the 2nd tilt of the night, visitors, Mike's Meateors vs Juggies TapHouse Brewers. Brewers prevailed in this one, 10-8, it was close all the way. Pitching was superb on both sides, Jim Fink and Vern Herter, defense was stellar, very few errors and some great catches in the outfield from both teams. Brewers outhit the Meat Eaters, 19-12, so that was pretty much the difference. Mike's only scored 1 run in the last 4 innings compared to the Brewers 6. It was a good game to be a part of. The Meteors top hitters were Darrel Bonagofsky, 3-3 with a HR and Royce Hopkins, 3-3. Mike Shantz and Don Halberg each were 2-3. For the Brewers, Todd Toews and Dale Deis, 3-3. Blaine Lutz, 3-4 with a HR. Super subs, Dan Hein and Dery Eresman were both 2-3, Dery with and inside the park homer deep down the RF line. Jack Simons also had 2 big hits. The temperature has been turned down a notch, so it was a beautiful night at our Field of Dreams. Thanks to the Station guys and Randy and Darlene upstairs.

The Cross Town Red Sox and the Morrison Health Mavericks put on a show well worth the price of admission. Both teams had flashes of brilliance offensively and defensively . The Mavericks started it off in their top half of the first inning by putting up 4 runs. The game would go back and forth right to the 7th inning. With the score tied 8-8 the Mavericks put together 7 hits which led to a 13-8 lead going into the bottom half of the final inning. Cue the expression “saving the best for last” the Red Sox bottom 3 batters came up with solid singles to load the bases! 2 walks, 2 singles, a double and a final nail in the coffin laser beam single from Leroy Friesen and the Red Sox had a 14-13 come from behind victory. Hilites for the Mavericks included, Trevor Fauth 3/4, Garth Stark 3/4 (single, double, and homer), Leon Moch 3/4 (single, double, and triple), and Kerry Schentag 4/4, For the Red Sox, It was Larry Hurrell 2/3, Derry “hitting machine” Eresman 4/4, Boyd Hamm 3/4 ( 2 doubles off the fence), Brian Stonehouse 3/3, Bruce “goose” Gardiner 2/3, and Harv Buye 2/2.
