Game 2 - The 2nd game on this hot and muggy 1st day of August, was between the Garage Pug FOG's and the home team, Juggies TapHouse Brewers. The Brewers could do no wrong tonight, winning the game, 17-5. We came out strong, with back-to-back homers by Blaine Lutz and Dieter Stanke in the 1st inning, and never looked back. Blaine ended the night, 3-3. all 3 hits being dingers, for a total of 7 RBI's. He had a 5 HR week in our 2 games. Dieter, Todd Toews & Jamie White also had 3 hits each. Vern Herter once again pitched a strong game, no walks and defense played strong behind him. The FOG's Mike Ferre, Norm Emann, Ken Kallis and Dan Hein all had 2 hits each. They were also missing a couple of their key guys. It will be a lot closer next time. Thanks to the Lakers, and to Stan & Garry in the press box. Have a great long weekend.

July 31:
Game 1 - The first game of the night between the Garage Pub and Elmer & Harold's ended in dramatic fashion. The Pub had battled back in the bottom of the sixth with five runs to nurse a 13 to 9 lead into the final frame. Back to back homers by the Lutz boys and a sacrifice fly by the effervescent Chad Stahl tied the game at 13.
With two out in the last of the seventh coach Andy Stroh stunned the crowd with a smash into right centre. The ball rolled to the fence and the speedy Stroh scampered home with the winner.
Game 2 - Stranded base runners cost the Recyclers early in this game and missing two big bats was the main reason while the Meateors bats were smoking. The carnivores punched out 25 hits highlighted by Hopkins 4-4 with a three run shot, Martin and Johnson also 4-4 on the night. Rod Groves led the Recyclers going 3-3. Final score 16 - 2 for Mikes Meats.

Game 3 - Another very close game between 2 evenly matched teams, Juggies TapHouse Brewers coming out on top over the Logos Rebels, 10-8. It was the last game of the July schedule, where did the summer go? Oh well, we still have a little more than a month to enjoy playing a kids game. Both teams had 17 hits, Logos top guys were Danny Stevenson and Mike Sills, both with 3 hits. Ken Wou, Roland Schlenker and Sherwin Lehman, all with 2 hits. The big difference in the game was the 3 big dingers, 2 from Blaine Lutz and 1 from Dieter Stanke. That accounted for 7 RBI's. Other notables were Todd Toews, Jack Simons and Dave Sawatsky, all with 2 hits. Good close game. Thanks to the volunteer Lakers tonight, and Beek and Gary upstairs.. August, here we come.

July 30:
Game 1 - Well folks, on a very special night at Lorne Holden field (dollar hot dog night) the Cross Town Red Sox hosted the Redi Recycle Rockies. The Rockies came out swinging for the fence, literally, Big Al Martens with one swing of the bat put the visiting team up by one. Not to be outdone and shrugging off the pressures of playing in front of the dollar hot dog night crowd the Red Sox answered back with 5 runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Rockies seemed to be inspired by what they saw and also scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning! GAME ON!! Playing like it was Prime Rib night instead of “Weiner “ night the Red Sox scored 10 runs in the next 2 innings. As a result of the Red Sox winningest pitcher having all his stuff working (high heat, low heat, slider and change up) he was able to hold the Rockie offence to 5 runs over the last 4 innings. Final score 15-11. Highlights for the Rockies included Big Al Martens homer, Rod Groves 3/4 with a double, Jim Larson 2/3, Rob Hammel 2/3, Rod Brusky 3/3, and Phillippe Marleau 2/3. Red Sox highlights included Larry Harrell 2/3, Derry Eresman 2/2 with a triple, Boyd Hamm 3/3 with a double, Todd Kopec 3/3, Brian Stonehouse 2/3 , Leroy Friesen 2/3, Lorne Knoll 2/3, and rounding out a total team effort was Bill “steady Eddie” Lapshinoff 2/3. Again, a huge thanks to the Garage Pub for umping and preparing all the tasty tube steaks on our “DOLLAR HOT DOG NIGHT”!!

Game 2 - On another perfect evening at the Lorne Holden Field Stewart Optical defeated the Station Coffee Longshots 18-13. The game started with 19 runs in the first two innings and had all the makings of a high scoring affair, but the Longshot bats cooled off in the middle innings and the Eye Guys made a couple of big defensive plays to keep the Coffee boys off the score sheet until the bottom of the seventh. Ron Pisoni, Kevin Lane and Russ Cameron all had four hits for the Optical team while Tom Baker, Dan Rattai and John Engel added three hits including a 3 run home run by John. Cal Mayer was a perfect 4 for 4 for the Longshots while Blair Hennes, Dean Roy and Grant Mackay all added a couple of hits. Bruce Stuber and Trent Rasch handled the duties on the mound and both kept the ball in play and let the hitters hit. Thanks to the umps, the announcer and scorekeeper and especially to the hot dog team. Another great event headed up by League MVP Norm Emann, thanks for help to make the league the best anywhere.

For the Astros, Keith Lutz was 3/4 with a home run and 4 RBI’s, Darrell Jesse was 3/4 with 3 RBI’s, Frank Merkl and Bill Ramage were also 3/4. For the Lakers, Kevin Sauer was 3/3 with a walk and 3 RBI’s and Darren Heinz was also 3/3 with a walk and 1 RBI. Gerard Hittel was 3/4 with 2 RBI’s. And the hot dogs were flying off the grill with more than 300 enjoyed over the course of the evening. Well done, Norm Emann and the Garage Pub guys who were keeping the dogs moving and handling the umping.

Game 1 - The RV Storage Lakers Defeated the Copper Coulee Casino Fox’s 8-6 on another warm and humid night. Due to the lack of evidence and the author of the winning team having a bad case of HUMA there will not be a descriptive write up off the game. Game 3 - On a beautiful evening to play ball the final game at Lorne Holden field had the home team Stewart Optical hosting the Cross Town Red Sox. In the end though the visiting Red Sox prevailed 14-12. Highlites for the vision boys were Randy Biko 4/4, Kevin Lane 3/4 including a solo homer, John Engel 3/4 (single, triple, and solo homer) John was also stellar defensively , fielding balls and throwing guys out from all over the diamond!!
