Aug 15:
Game 1 - For the first game of the night at Lorne Holden Field the Cross Town Red Sox were taking on the Garage Pub. Someone needed to come and give a pep talk to both teams about that it is okay to score runs in all 7 innings. For example, the Garage Pub scored runs in 3 of the seven innings and the Red Sox 4 innings. On a positive note the Red Sox, now named the “cardiac kids” because in their last 5 wins they have all been come from behind to secure the victories. These kind of wins have been very hard on our (not so patient anymore) coaches. Tonight I think they were very ready to beat us with Glen “the gipper” Ebel’s crutches. In the end the Red Sox pulled out a 10-8 victory over the Garage Pub. Stars for the Garage Pub were…Mike Ferre 4/4 (all singles), Mike Peters 2/3, Jim Tulle 2/3, and honorable mention to Norm “ice cream man” Ehman who was 0/3, but hit the ball solid every time . Unfortunately our fielders had read the Coles notes on Normmy and were in the right position to catch all his line drives. Stars for the Red Sox were…Boyd Hamm 4/4 (3 singles and a double), Terry Tucker 2/3, and Tom Rieger 2/3. Many thanks to the Maverick’s for preparing the food and looking after strikes and balls and the base paths.

Aug 14:
Game 1 - Stewart Optical scored early and often and held on for a 21-8 win over Juggies Tap House Brewers. John Engel led the Optical team’s defense with a couple of gold glove plays in the field and had a great night at the plate going 4-4 with a single, double and two grand slams. Bill Rothwell had two doubles and two singles, Kevin Lane hit a home run and added a single and Tom Baker and Jeff Thompson added 3 hits. Everyone else in the lineup added one or two hits in the Eye Guys biggest offensive night of the year. Bruce Stuber had a great game on the mound and other than a pair of three run home runs by Deiter Stanke and Blaine Lutz kept the Brewers off balance all evening. However, it weren’t for a couple of big double plays and some strong defense the game would have been much closer. Another perfect night at the Diamond, the scoring and announcing were top notch, the umpires were on top of all the plays and the burgers and hot dogs once again smelled and tasted great. You just can’t beat this league.

Game 2 - Thanks you to the weather gods for the beautiful night at the ball park for all 3 games. The Sauer RV Storage Lakers came away with a 12-2 victory over the Logo Rebels in front of a nearly sold out crowd and it wasn’t even $1 hot dog night. The game was a lot closer than what the final result was. Highlights for the Lakers was a 3/3 night for Clint Surprise Kleckner & Darrell nice to know you Maser, 2/3 night for Barry See you later ball Kochy, Darrin spinerama Heinz, the Boss man Kevin Kochy Sauer and a fine performance from the winning pitcher Gerard back from Vacation (still has most of his hair) Hittel. We don’t want to forget Gord highlight real Moore going 2/2. Highlights for the Logos Rebels was a 2/3 night for Sherwin I got it Lehman, Mike Sills (who also made a great back hand catch at SS to get the 3rd out), and Ron down the foul line Jarvis. This was great night for the ball players and the fans. A special thanks goes out to the Scorekeepers, the fans and to the Mavericks who cooked up some fine food for all the fans and visitors at LHF. There was only 2 bad calls made by the umps all night, the last game is over and the concession is closed.

Game 3 - The last game of the beautiful evening where the Logos’ Rebels hosted the Morrison Mavericks. Very interesting game. The Mav’s scored 5, 3 and 1 in there first 3 innings. While the Rebels couldn’t muster up any in there first 4 innings. The turn of events. The Mav’s didn’t score any runs in there next 4 innings, while the Rebels were able to score 3, 1 and 5 to saw it off at 9-9. For the offensive part, the Mavericks Trevor Fauth, Jeff Hall, Garth Stark, Kerry Shentag, and Lloyd Kilback all had a pair of hits. Aug 12:
Game 1 - If there was admission for the first game, fans would have definitely gotten their monies worth. It literally was the tale of two stories. The first story had the Station Coffee team hosting the Cross Town Red Sox . The coffee boys came out strong (no pun intended) and led 7-0 after 3 innings. and 10-5 after 4 innings. The second story had the same main characters, but a different story line…the Red Sox flipped the script on the coffee team and out scored them 7-0 in the last 3 innings. Final score was 12-10 for the visitors. Hi-lights for Station Coffee were…Blair Hennes 3/4 (single , double, and triple), Dean Roy 3/4, Harold Enslen 4/4, Blair Bosch 3/4. For the Red Sox…Larry Hurrell 2/4 (with a key triple in the top of the 7th), Todd Kopec 4/4 (2 singles, double, and homer), Bruce Gardiner 2/3. Thanks to Juggies for cooking and umping!

Game 2 - The second game of the evening saw the Redi Recycle Rockies take on the Morrison Health Mavericks. The Mavericks scored 5 runs in each of the 2nd & 3rd innings on route to a 15 - 6 victory.
Offensively for the Mavericks Garth Stark was 3 for 3 with 3 doubles, Jeff Hall was 3 for 3 with a double, Royce Hopkins was 3 for 3, Trevor Fauth was 3 for 4 with a double and Leon Moch, Kerry Schentag, Lloyd Kilback, Bill Martin, & Dale Haas were all 2 for 3. For the Rockies Rick Parker was 2 for 3 with a home run.
Rod Insko was on the mound for the Mavericks while Larry Biko was on the mound for the Rockies.
Thanks to all the volunteers for providing another great night for ball at Lorne Holden Field.

Game 3 - Some nights it’s the big bats or plays that decide the outcome, but on this night the little things made all the difference. Tim L throwing the body in front of many hits to keep runners from advancing and Paul K stretching out keeping his toe on the plate to kill a rally. In the end this helped the meat guys edge the Lakers 10-7. Don H and big D Bonagofsky both three for three, Darrell Maser was perfect 4-4 for Sauers. Thanks to Juggies for kitchen and umping.
