August 29 - Sept 1 Schedule and Results

Sept 1:
-Game One
Station Coffee Long Shots and the Redi Recyclers put on a great game for the fans tonight with the Long Shots coming away with a thrilling 7-6 win. The Long Shots started off with two in the first and the Recyclers getting one in the bottom. The Long Shots put up another two in the second and one in the third to go up 5-1 after three but the Recyclers responded with five in the bottom of the 4th to take a 6-5 lead. In the top of the 6th with two out and runners on 1st and 2nd Harold Enslen hit a double to right center field driving in 2RBI's to put the Long Shots in the lead. With one out and a runner on first a bloop hit into left center field, Cal Mayer made an amazing diving catch then throwing the ball to Miles Mayer who threw the ball to first completing the double play winning the game for the Long Shots. Cal Mayer went 2-2, walk, Blair Hennes 2-3, Miles Mayer 2-3, Bill Martin 2-2. Stand outs for the Recyclers were Rod Brusky, Gerry Harpell and Dave Camphor all going 3-3. Winning pitcher was Trent Rasch and taking the loss was Joe Steinbacher.  Thanks to Randy Biko and his crew and Logos for umpiring and concession.

-Game Two
After a first inning that gave all indications that the game was going to be a battle of the bats, Jim Fink bore down and held the Red Sox to 3 hits over the next 5 innings. He was aided by good defense highlighted by a great "in the sun '' catch by Steve Kakuk. For the Red Sox, Ken Bachmeier made a difficult "in the sun" catch of his own and Darrell Maser made an accurate throw from left center field to home plate to take away an extra run from the Astro's. Offensively, Dave Sawatsky, Keith Lutz (2 triples) and Robert Jensen each batted 1.000 for the night.

-Game Three
After the first inning the Mavs were up 5 to 0. It was like David VS Goliath. The Lakers responded with 5 runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to take a 15 to 6 Lead which was enough to keep the high powered Mavs off the score sheet for a 17 to 8 win for the Lakers. Leroy Friesen and Barry Koch lead the way going 3 for 3 while Barry Koch sealed the reversed David and Goliath story by hitting a grand slam in the 4th inning. Chris Happy Wandler, Tim the Tool man Parker, Pierre Catfish and Gerry Tessman went 3 for 3 for the Mavs in the loss but they did get the win in who was going to start the fire 🔥 for the team that won. Great pitching by Gerard Shinner Hittel and a great catch by the back up pitcher at 2nd base, Tim Hortons Johnson. Thanks to Royce Hopkins (A player) for going 2 for 3 at the dish which was occupied by the Legend Mr. Harvey Moch. The keen hitting from Walter Pratt and Bill Ullman we’re crucial in the 2nd and 5th innings.
Vern Herter and Rod Insko shared the loss from the pitching standpoint but Rod Insko recovered with the save at the bonfire by going 3 for 4 but still owes a looney to the opposition.
The food was great and the umps were 100% correct on this hot but cool night.

Aug 31:
-Game One
A late game five run explosion with two out carried the Morrison Mavericks to a 14 to 13 win over the Station Coffee team. The fifth inning rally was sparked by Rick Parker's three run homer to tie the game. Gerry Tessman then drove in Sherwin Lehman with the winning counter.
The Maverick defense shut down a valiant Station group in the top of the sixth with a double play and a long fly out. With the tying run on, John Engel sent Chris Wandler to the warning track for the final out.

-Game Two
Trackside Liquor Store IPA's came out firing on all cylinders again tonight, beating the Garage Pub FOG, 14-4. Our bats were sizzling and our defense was superb. Blaine Lutz, Dieter Stanke and Al Martens all hit towering shots into the Westjet Flight Deck, Pudge Bartman continued his torrid pace with a perfect night at the plate, hitting 3 doubles, and everyone else had multiple hits. The FOG boys couldn't get things going right from the start, but had lots of crappy luck, with about 6 hard hit 3rd strike line drives just going foul. Some nights, everything goes your way and some nights, nothing works. Thanks to Captain Schentag and his Logos crew on the diamond and in the kitchen, and Bob and Garry in the press box.

Game Three
Elmer and Harold's Astros couldn’t get the inaugural win for their New jerseys  as Southridge scored six in their bottom half of the 6th to secure the tie at 19-19.  The slugfest included back to back jacks for the Lutz brothers in the third, not to be outdone, Randy Kambeitz and Dan Rattai hit homers for Southridge. Super sub Glen Ebel  had great night at the plate and made game altering catch at rover.

Aug 30:
-Game One
The first game of the evening was way closer than the scoreboard read as Stewart Optical defeated the Red Sox 12-5. There were big defensive plays throughout the game and a couple times the Eye Guys worked there way out of bases loaded jams giving up no runs. Kevin Lane and Bob Tetz both made big defensive plays to end innings and the balls that often find holes seemed to find leather. Chad Stahl and Jim Stewart both had three hits and Jim knocked in 7 runs to lead the offence. Bob Tetz, Fred Kelln, Kevin Lane and Paul Edmunson all chipped in with a pair of hits for the fairly balanced offence. Don Hallberg led the way offensively for the Red Sox with three hits while Royce Hopkins and Darrell Maser added a couple each. Fred Bohnet pitched another solid game for Stewart’s as did Tim Mayer for the Red Sox.

Game Two
Southridge Brewers took the lead in the second and never looked back for a 16-10 victory over the Copper Coulee Casino Silver Foxes.  Randy Kambeitz and Kelly Martin each went yard for the brewers, strong hitting from Gregg Martin and Dale Haas as well as a rally stopping catch from Gregg at first. Kerry Buss had a three run dinger in the loss.

Game Three
The last game of the night was the last meeting of the season between the Canadian Energy Lakers and the Logos Rebels. It turned out to be the proverbial “barn burner” that kept the fans around until the sun was so low the game only went 5 innings. Logos got off to an early lead by a home run from Atron Refrigeration to make it 2-1. The Lakers weren’t going to lay down and die tonight as they then put a 5 spot up. After the Lakers Kochy was walked the first inning by 3 pitches that nearly hit the back stop he buckled down and hit 2 homers that gave the visiting Lakers hope that they weren’t going to suffer their 11th loss of the year. The Rebels had other plans though and were relentless with the foursome of Moch/Moch/Rudolph and Schentag banging out 12 hits between them. With the score 10-7 for the Lakers and Huggy Scherger coming to the plate in the open 5th inning, 3rd base COACH PERSCHON called a time out. He promptly waved the runner from home that Scherger has used for nearly a month back to the dugout. He indicated to Scherger it was time to use his own buttocks and hit one over the chain link which of course he did to make it 11-7. As it turned out, it was the winning run as the Rebels scored 3 in the bottom of the last inning to come up one run short giving the Lakers the “W” 11-10. These late game dramatics were only possible because of the timely hitting from the bottom of the Lakers order from Bonenfant, Hoffner, Pratt, and Ullman early in the game to keep men on the bases for the top of the order and the hard hitting Kochy. Lakers starting pitcher “TJ” Johnson was once again relentless on the mound issuing “Zero” walks. All in all it was a great ball game that ended just before the moon came out and all the $$$$ was counted in the kitchen which by the way was a record night lead by Lehman on the grill and Cote upselling at the window. Can it get better than this?? With only a few days left in the season I guess we will see.

-Game Two
In the middle game of the evening, Stewart Optical held off a last inning rally by Logos for a 13-12 win. The tying and go ahead runners were on base but a good play by Jim Stewart at third ended the game. Darryl Bonagofsky, Jim Stewart and Kevin Lane once again had big nights for the Optical team with three hits apiece, Darryl also hit a long home run. Leon Moch and John Unreiner led the Logos with three hits each as well. Harvey Moch and Fred Bohnet both pitched well in another very tight game on another perfect night for ball

Game Three
The home team, Trackside Liquor Store IPA's came out hot tonight, with Pudge Bartman hitting a huge HR over the centerfield fence to lead off the bottom half of the 1st inning, setting up a 5 run inning for us. Trackside held on for a 12-5 victory over Redi Recyclers in our 6 inning game. Defense, namely our outfield, was the reason for our win tonight, with some outstanding play by Glen Ebel, Pudge Bartman, Garth Burton, Dieter Stanke and Al Martens. Almost all the outs were made by them. The all-stars at the plate were Pudge, Dieter, Kasey Valkenburg and Garth Burton, all perfect nights for them. We had 2 super-subs tonight, Ron Jarvis and Gord Moore, who both contributed with big hits. Brian Stonehouse was our winning pitcher and Joltin' Joe Steinbacher took the loss. Thanks to the Mavericks for their volunteer efforts tonight, and Randy and Darlene in the press box.
