June 20 - 23 Schedule and Results

June 23:
-Game One
Station Coffee Long Shots took on the Cross Town delivery team and took away a 12 - 11 nail bitter. With the Long Shot boys putting up 2 consecutive 5 run innings making the score 10 - 3 it looked like they would run away with the game. After leading 12 - 3 after top of the 6th the flip flop was called and the Crosstowners rallied for 8 runs to make it very interesting, but the Long Shots held on for the victory. John McFee, Darrell Jesse and Myles Mayer went 3 - 3. There were lots of great catches by both teams. Trent Rasch and Bruce Stuber teamed up for the pitching win and Tim Mayer took the loss.

-Game Two
A tight Maverick defense held the slightly undermanned Trackside IPAs off the scoreboard for all but one inning to fashion a 12 - 4 win. Offensively the bottom of the Maverick's order led the way. "IRod" Insko, Ken "Numbers" Zollner and "Moose" Emann scored two runs each to play major parts in upending the IPAs.

-Game Three
The final game of the night featured the Lakers vs the Garage Pub Fog. The Fog jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after disappointing the Lakers hitters with 3 straight outs and only 4 pitches in the top of the first. The Lakers responded though with a barrage of hits the next few innings led by Leroy Friesens 3 run dinger. Lutz Perschon contributed 3 hits and “Coondog Coonie” put the game out of reach with a 3 run double. The turning point came early though with Walter Pratt making a sensational catch looking straight into the big ball in the sky to stop a FOB rally. The Garage hit the ball hard numerous times but it seemed to always find the inside of shortstop Huggy Schreger’s glove. He threw out no less than 8 runners to Bonenfant who played a solid first base.
Final score: Lakers 13 Garage FOB 8. Next action is Monday night so pack up the fam and head to the park to experience the burgers and Lorne Holden Full Meal Deal. Best value south of the river.

June 22:
-Game One
The Lakers came away with a 12-8 Victory over the Trackside IPA's. Game highlights were; Timely hitting throughout the lineup, 2 great catches by Walter Pratt in right field while looking into the sun, a great catch by Brian Hoffner deep in left field for the third out with runners in scoring position, some fine pitching from Tim Johnson and a timely catch by Bill Ullman (back catcher) to make the third out which could have loaded the bases for Blain Lutz, who earlier had hit a home run. It was a windy night but that didn't stop the players and fans from enjoying some fine ball and a great price for a burger and the trimmings.

-Game Three
Southridge rebounded from a shellacking Tuesday to beat the Rebels 15-6. Jeff Hall had a three run shot for the brewers. Garth Stark and Leon Moch had homers for the rebels.

June 21:
-Game One
In the first game tonight, the Copper Coulee Silver Foxes defeated the Logos Rebels 11-7. The Silver Foxes played stellar defense all night and contributed to them leading 11-3 in the 7th inning. But in their last at bats the Rebels came storming back with Leon Moch and Garth Stark both hitting 2 run homers and making the game suddenly very tight. Great pitching by both Roger King and Perry Nurse kept the game close.

-Game Two
In the second game of the evening Stewart Optical broke a three game losing streak with a 19-7 win over Southridge Wine and Whiskey. Rob Fisher led a balanced offence going 4 for 4 with three doubles and he also made a few great defensive plays. Darryl Bonagofsky also had a big night going 3 for 3 with a home run and a couple of great catches in the outfield. Constable Tetz, Paul Edmundson and Chad Stahl were also 3 for 3 while Dennis Young, Fred Kelln, Blair Bosch and Les Zeller picked up a couple of hits apiece. Fred Bohnet was again steady on the mound for the Optical team. Dan Rattai hit a three run home run for the Southridge team while Dale Haas knocked in a couple of runs as well. Hats off to everyone that helped get the Diamond in such great shape with all the moisture we have had. Without all the effort we wouldn’t have been able to play.

-Game Three
In the final game of the evening, Jim Fink pitched a 7-0 shutout against the Redi Recyclers. E&H got off to a 5-0 start at the bottom of the 1st aided by a grand slam from Keith Lutz. From that point on both teams played good defense highlighted by great outfield catches from Mike Ferre, Gerry Harpell and Steve Kakuk. On the infield, Darcy Harty knocked down a blistering line drive that would have surely gone for extra bases. In fact it was hit so hard, it knocked Darcy off his feet!. Larry Hurrel, with his new 22oz,$5 bat and Jim Poersch with his ancient bat both hit 1.000 for the evening. On the base path for E&H, Keith Kleckner, with voices in his head telling him to " run you little f------er, run" forced Frank Merkl  off 3rd base. What followed after that can only be described as a scene from a Charlie Chaplin movie.
