July 4 - July 7 Schedule and Results

July 7:
-Game One
On a warm humid night the Red Sox took on the Logos Rebels. It was a hard fought battle, but the Red Sox finally got out of their losing streak winning 21-13. Thanks to a home run from Deiter Stable and strong pitching from Roger King. Also strong performances from Darryl Maser and Tim Mayer who went 5 for 5 at the plate. Strong performances from all the players especially Ken Kallis who made a couple of outstanding plays at third base. Thanks to Roger King, Deiter Stanke, and Chris Sandler for subbing for us tonight.

-Game Two
In the second game of the evening Stewart Optical pulled out a close 10-9 decision over Elmer and Harold’s in a game that could have gone either way. In the bottom of the seventh E&H had runners on first and third with one away before Les Zeller made a couple of key defensive plays to end the game. Kevin Lane led the Optical offence going 4 for 4 , while Chad Stahl and Jeff  Thompson both went 3 for 3. Dave Sawatsky led the  E&H offence with four hits while Bill Ramage and Frank Merkl each added three and Andy Stroh hit a three run home run.
Fred Bohnet and Jim Fink pitched strong games and both defenses made enough big plays to keep the game close. Robert Jensen even accidentally kicked a ball to first just in time to get an out.

-Game Two
The Trackside Liquor Store IPA's were hot tonight against the Crosstown Courier Red Sox, winning the game 16-6. We started off in the top of the 1st with 5 runs, and never really looked back. Our bats were hot and we were able to keep the strong Red Sox lineup under control. A combination of Al Dyck, Blaine Lutz and Pudge Bartman did a masterful job on the mound. We got to super sub Trent Rasch early, as he had basically shut us down a couple nights ago when pitching for his own team. Some of the IPA's hitting highlights were HR's by Al Martens and a grand slam moon shot by Dieter Stanke, that might still be on the fly. All of our players had multiple hits and RBI's so I can't mention all of them. Good work guys. Thanks to subs Trent and Rick Parker for stepping up to sub for the Sox, to the Recyclers for handling the volunteer functions (Happy Birthday to Jim Larson) and to Bob and Garry in the press box. See you on the weekend at our home tournament.

-Game Three
The Morrison Mavericks defeated the Logo's Rebels by the score of 9 - 5 in a close match at Holden Field on Wednesday night. At ten o'clock last night there were no injuries to report.

July 5:
-Game One
Gerry "Too Tall" Tessman smacked out four doubles accounting for five RBIs to lead the Mavericks to a 14 - 6 victory over the Copper Coulee Casino Silver Foxes. "IRod" Insko
pitched a masterful game to hold the Foxes off the scoreboard in all but two innings. The Mavericks' outfield of Schlenker, Wandler, Philips and Cote along with Lehman at the rover position played superbly to help shut down the hard hitting Foxes.

-Game Two
Before the second game of the evening between Stewart Optical and the Canadian Energy Lakers, all the players gathered along the baselines and paid tribute to Life Members, Harry Zeller and Clint Pfaff.  Both of these men were instrumental in building our league and the great facility we have to play ball at. Jim Black, Jim Poersch and Harry’s son Les all shared some memories and a few laughs and both men were able to get a little bit of the recognition they deserve for many years of service.
The game followed right after the ceremony and it turned out to be another very close one. The lead changed hands a few times with the Optical team taking a 2 run lead going into the bottom of the final inning. The Lakers scored 2 runs to tie the game and had bases loaded with only one out but were unable to bring home the winning run and the game ended in a 13-13 draw.
Tim Johnson for the Lakers and Larry Savage for Stewart Optical both pitched strong games. There were some great defensive plays, some clutch hits, a few defensive miscues and in the end nobody lost. Darrell Bonagofsky hit a home run for Stewart Optical and had a couple of other big hits. Kevin Lane and Paul Edmundson chipped in with a three hits apiece. For the Lakers Leroy Freisen had a home run as well as a couple of other hits and Gerard Hittel, Walter Pratt and Brian Cooney chipped in with a couple big hits as well.
