Tournament Notes:
Day One report by Kevin Friesen
The Huff n Puff 55s began their Huntsman Senior Games with some team bonding before
opening play on Wednesday.
Tuesday night the Huff n Puffs had a team supper at the Olive Garden before heading to
Sound of Music at the Tuacahn Theatre.
Unfortunately for the Huff n Puffs they opened up with a pair of losses Wednesday losing
23-11 to defending Major champions Cornerstone and then dropped a 24-20 decision to
Vegas Strong.
In game one, Juggie Sisko, Barry Koch, Blaine Lutz and Jim Stewart all homered. Koch,
Sisko, Stewart and Royce Hopkins all had two hits. Kelly Lutz took the loss on the
mound.
In game two, a slow start was costly as the Huff n Puffs trailed 12-4 after three innings.
Blaine Lutz continued his hot hitting with three more his including a pair of home runs.
Kevin Friesen, Curtis Scherger, Cal Mayer and Dave Hammel also had three hits while Al
Martens, Jim Stewart, Barry Koch and Ed Tomlenovich chipped in with a pair of hits each.
Hammel took the loss. The Huff n Puffs play their final preliminary round game Thursday
morning at 10 against Savon Sports.
Day Two report from Kevin Friesen
The Huff n Puff 55 bats have gone cold in the St. George heat.
Thursday the Huff n Puffs wrapped up preliminary play with a 17-13 loss to Savon Sports.
Royce Hopkins and Juggie Sisko led the team with three hits each. Jim Stewart and Kelly Lutz
had a pair of hits including a home run.
The Huff n Puff were placed in the AA division. In their first game Thursday they dropped a
heartbreaking 9-8 decision to the Mountain Men from Salt Lake City. We led 6-2 after 3 and 7-5
after five innings. Barry Koch led the Huff n Puffs with three hits. Royce Hopkins, Jim Stewart,
Dave Hammel, Al Martens all had two hits.
The Huff n Puffs now must win five straight for gold, their next game is Friday at 3:10.
Final report from Kevin Friesen
For the first time in four years the Huff nPuff 55s will not medal at the Huntsman Games.
On Friday the Huff n Puffs were eliminated following a 37-17 loss to the Islanders from Maui,
Hawaii. The game was actually close 19-15 after six innings but the Islanders erupted for 18 runs
in the open inning. Blaine Lutz had three hits with a home run. Kevin Friesen, Royce Hopkins,
Kelly Lutz and Barry Koch all had a pair of hits each.
Earlier in the day, the Huff n Puffs kept their hopes alive with an exciting 22-17 extra inning win
over the Calgary Chargers. Blaine Lutz, Jim Stewart and Royce Hopkins all had three hits with a
home run. The Huff n Puffs finished with a 1-5 record.
