June 3 - June 6 Schedule and Results

June 6:
Game 1 - On a beautiful, sunny night, the Elmer & Harold’s Astros pulled out a 20 - 9 win over the Station Coffee Longshots. For the Astros, Keith Lutz was a perfect 4/4 and Jim Cooper, Kelly Lutz and Perry Nurse were 3/4. Defensively, Gord Deibert and Byron Witkowsky made great plays in the field. For the Longshots, Gregg Martin was 3/3 with Blair Hennes, Dean Roy and Blair Bosch all 2/3 on the night. Kelly Lutz was the only guy who managed to hit a home run on this night with no wind. Thanks to the Logos Rebels guys for looking after the umping and the canteen.

Game 2 - Ron Pisoni, John Engel, Kevin Lane, Dave Wong and Tom Baker each had three hits leading Stewart Optical to a 17-7 victory over the Cooper Coulee Silver Foxes on what was probably the nicest evening of the season so far. Randy Biko and Bruce Stuber chipped in with a couple of hits each for the Eye Guys in what was a pretty balanced offence. Tom Baker and Bruce Stuber both pitched well for the Optical guys while Sam Montoya handled the pitching duties for the Silver Foxes. Boyd Kosolofski, Jim Phillips and Randy Wuerful each had three hits for the Foxes. It was a great night to be at the Diamond and once again the burgers smelled and tasted great.

Game 3 - Just a quick note on the last game, Juggies TapHouse Brewers defeated the Cross Town Courier Red Sox, 16-8. Red Sox had Blair Hennes as a sub, and the Brewers had Dan Rattai as a sub. Thanks for helping out guys.

June 5:
Game 1 - After a humiliating loss while breaking wind on the previous night, the Garage Pub Fog rebounded with a hard fought 19 to 13 win over Stewart Optical. Perhaps a night of revelry at their sponsor's establishment after that loss contributed to their turn around.

Game 2 - The second game of the evening finally saw the wind blow itself out, which made for a great night for a great ball game between the Morrison Health Mavericks and the Sauer RV Storage Lakers.
The Mavericks put up a 5 spot in the first inning and held the lead for most of the game but the pesky Lakers just kept chipping away at their lead and when it was all said and done managed to squeak out a 13-13 tie, thanks to a Keith Kleckner triple in the bottom of the 7th.
Mavericks offensive highlights saw Leon Moch go 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and both Garth Stark & Tim Mayer went 3 for 3 with a double.
For the Lakers Barry Koch was 3 for 3 with a HR & 2 doubles and Keith Kleckner went 3 for 4.
Rod Insko was on the mound for the Mavericks and Gerard Hittel took on the pitching duties for the Lakers.
Thanks to all the volunteers for providing another great evening for ball at Lorne Holden Field.
Oh yeah, by the way Gerry you owe me one!

Game 3 - Mikes meats survived a stingy defensive effort put forth by the Station coffee boys, to come away with a 6-3 victory. Cheered on by a their loyal fan base they kept the meat crew off the board for three innings and built a 3 run lead, which could have been worse except for a great double play by Royce Hopkins. Five straight hits in the bottom of fourth provided all the offence Mikes would need on this night. Tim Johnson’s two run single was key in the fourth, while Cal Mayer had two screaming doubles for the coffee gang. Jim Fink and Dean Roy were both tough on the mound. Thanks to Logo boys and the booth crew.

June 4:
Game 1 - The Meateors saw right thru the FOG on their way to a convincing 17 - 2 victory. Tim Laczkowski got his first big league hit and an RBI to go with it, and Jim Fink shut down the FOG batters. Kelly Martin had a dinger for Mikes and Royce had 4 RBI while Mike Ferre and Dan Hein were 2 for 2 for the Garage. Great umpires and burger crew from Stewies squad and maybe sexiest burger flipper.

Game 2 - Well. sports fans, it was a tough night at the Field of Dreams, extremely windy, trees falling everywhere, no one got hit though. All  6 teams persevered through less than ideal conditions, I guess we better build a retractable roof.. The Juggies TapHouse Brewers held on to beat The Redi Recycle Rockies, 12-9. The Rockies actually out hit the Brewers, 21-15, but 3 Hr's by our left handed big guys was the difference. Dieter Stanke hit 2 and Kasey Valkenburg hit 1, which was pretty much the difference. Redi left 14 men on base, while Juggies only left 5. Good night for Redi guys were the ageless wonder, Keith Bender, 4-4, Rick Parker and Al Martens, both 3-4, Rod Groves, Larry Biko, Phillip Marleau and Darrel Boechler, all had 2 hits. Blaine Lutz, 3-3, Dieter, 3-3, Kasey and Glenn Kessler both had 2 hits. Hugh English made his season debut tonight. Welcome back. Larry Biko took the loss and Vern Herter got the win on a tough night for pitchers trying to throw strikes. Thanks to the Stewey boys on a quiet night in the concession.

Game 3 - The final game of the evening on another cool windy night. The Logo Rebels started off on the right foot in the first and second innings with back to back 5 runs. Elmer and Harold’s Glass boys came back with 5 of their own in the top half of the third inning. The Rebels chipped away with 4 more runs to seal the victory 14-6. Jim Cooper led the way for E&H with double, single and was going for his third hit, until Larry Rudolph caught his line drive and doubled up Kelly Lutz at first. Darrell Jesse also had 2 solid singles for Astros. The Rebels continue to have a balance attack with Ron Jarvis and Chris Wandler with 3 singles, Dave Camphor and Andy Christie with a pair of singles each. Keith Lutz was running like his dog Cooper in left field making half a dozen outs. Roland Schlenker along with Danny Stevenson each made grabs that should make both TSN & Sportsnet high light plays of the week. We like to thank again the Eye Guys in the kitchen and on the field. Darlene and Jeff in the upstairs booth.

June 3:
Game 1 - The first game of the week pitted the Redi Recycle Rockies against the Sauer RV Storage Lakers. Both teams were coming off close victories, so this one proved to be a good game between the evenly matched squads. The Rockies looked like they would totally recycle the Lakers in the first inning putting up a 5 spot while holding the Storage Boys hit less. 5-0 after one. Some strong Laker defense kept the game within reach until the Lakers bats caught fire. They snuck 1 in the 3rd then 5 more in the 4th. Meanwhile 2 double plays kept the Rockies from scoring through the middle frames. For the Lakers, "Big Bat Barry" led the Lakers with 2 monster shots into the left field poplars which scored 4 runs. That was only 2 of the Lakers 23 hits though. Darren Heinz, Wally Pratt and Gordie "Best Realtor Out Of BC" Moore also had 3 hits. The Rockies kept it close largely in part to two dingers from "SS Parker" and a 2 hit night from Coach Friesen which included a triple. Jim Larson and Phil The Thrill Marleau also each chipped in with 2 hits apiece. The difference in the tight affair though was the Lakers defense that turned no less than 3 double plays. Make the final: Lakers 11 Rockies 8.
Game Report By Gerard Hittel

Game 2 - The second game of the evening on another cool night at Lone Holden Field of Dreams. It was another back and forth affair, as it was tied up at 5-5 after 3 complete. Then in the bottom half of the 6-inning, the Logo’s Rebels scored 5 runs to hang on for 13-9 victory over the Cross Town Red Sox. For the Red Sox it was Todd Kopec leading the way with a first inning 3 run home run and added 2 more doubles. The Rebels had a more even attack with Mike Sills, Danny Stevens with 3 doubles each. Along with Sherwin Lehman & Ron Jarvis each had 3 singles. We like to thank Stewart Optical boys for the umpire and kitchen duties, Randy and Darlene upstairs in the booth.
Game Report By Darryl Bartman

Game 3 - The final game on this gloomy weather evening saw the Morrison Health Mavericks defeat the Copper Coulee Casino Silver Foxes 16 - 7.
The Mavericks started strong by scoring 5 runs in each of the first 3 innings. Their offence was lead by Garth Stark and Dave Hammel who each went 3 for 3 and Dave had solo long ball in the 3rd inning. Delvin Moch, Jeff Hall, Leon Moch, Tim Mayer, Kerry Schentag, Todd Ammann, and Bill Martin all went 2 for 3.
For the Silver Foxes Jim Phillips was 2 for 2. Boyd Kosolofski, Wade Watson & Randy Kambeitz all went 2 for 3 and Randy had a towering long ball in the 7th inning.
Dave Hammel was on the mound for the Mavericks while Doug Roberts and Sam Montoya shared the pitching duties for the Silver Foxes.
Thanks to all the volunteers for providing another great evening for ball at Lorne Holden Field.
